Principles vs. Political Posturing: Economic Issues of the Day (7 sessions)

March 29, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until April 26, 2023

$40.00

What’s that – a shortage of baby formula? Why? The price of gas – doubled? What about price controls? And the trade deficit is up again? But we’ve protected our industry with tariffs and quotas. Shouldn’t we have a surplus of exports? And with all this “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” These and other questions will be discussed. After reviewing some basic principles of economics, using the same basic approach of every college economics textbook, the presenter will apply these to the economic issues of the day.

Instructor: Andrew Weintraub

Andrew Weintraub, having recently moved to the Ithaca area, has taught economics at the university level for forty years.  After receiving his PH.D. from Rutgers University, he taught at Lehigh University and at Temple University.  For the last fifteen years he has been teaching at Lifetime Learning Institutes at Bard and Vassar Colleges.
