UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, ALL PROGRAMS TAKE PLACE AT LIFELONG AND REQUIRE MEMBERSHIP
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until November 1, 2023
We will view 8 modern films of Shakespeare’s plays and one that pays homage to Shakespeare’s last years. Modern filmmaking techniques with skilled actors and inspired direction enhance audience enjoyment and remove the scholarly heaviness that too often intimidates. I will present in advance written introductions and synopses of all of the plays, so prior knowledge of the texts or plots is not required. All films will be subtitled for added clarity and enjoyment. For a list of films and more information, click here, or pick one up at Lifelong. ($40/series, $10/film – please identify the film you want to see when you register)
Instructor: Preston Wilson
Preston taught high school English & Creative Writing in Auburn for 39 years. There, he honed his skills as a presenter of Shakespeare on film to initially doubtful teenagers. The young people were enthusiastic and, more importantly, willing to say they liked the experience. Preston is a former Peace Corps volunteer (Ecuador), a happy gardener, and an even happier grandfather.
